Step back in time and meet Orphelia Mae Thompson, a spirited visitor from 1909, during Chickasaw National Recreation Area's living history program, "Mercy Me! The Waters of Sulphur."

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Lincoln Bridge

Visitors can stop by anytime during this free, roving program to visit with Orphelia as she shares stories of Sulphur's famous mineral springs, the opening of Lincoln Bridge, health tourism in the early 1900s, and some of the unusual treatments visitors sought in hopes of finding relief from their aches and pains.

Through humor, historic photographs, and engaging conversation, discover how the springs shaped the community, attracted visitors from across the country, and became one of the reasons this special place is protected today.

This family-friendly program is free and open to visitors of all ages. A National Park Service ranger will accompany Orphelia and be available to answer questions from a modern perspective.

We hope to see you at Lincoln Bridge for this unique journey into the past!
