Looking for a place to create Melt the ICE hats? A Place to Sew is offering retreat space at no cost from Sunday afternoon to Wednesday noon (Feb. 1-4) for anyone who wants support and camaraderie. The living room overlooking the Mississippi River is a peaceful place to knit and crochet and there's room for 10 to stay. Sign up individually or as a group. Stay for one night or for the day if that works. Go to aplacetosew.com to get contact info for reserving a spot. The initiative was started by Needle & Skein of St. Louis Park, Minn., which created the pattern that can be downloaded for $5 on Ravelry at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/melt-the-ice-hat. The shop has raised more than $250,000 with the money going to the St. Louis Park Emergency Program for rent and other aid and the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund. Other yarn shops across the country are also donating some portion of their proceeds from red yarn sales.
