Hope everyone had a great and took a Mom fishing on Mother’s Day. Hope Mother’s Day was special for all the Moms out there.

Pic is the product of a storm that blew through last night. Low water caused this (no one was hurt and no boats damaged). The water is 3’ low and 4’ lower than the high water line. So, low that our lifts won’t work and the dock is as low as it can go.

Last year, at this time, the found a beaver dam upstream. Is there another one this year?

Our wish and hope is that all the Mothers out there had a great day! Happy Mother’s Day!!!! Did you take your mom fishin...

Fishing opener 2026 is about to get underway.

Get bait before you get here. Supplies are limited in the stores around here. Fred's Bait & Tackle is in town. If you forgot to stop there, there’s Winnie Trading Post on Hwy 46 or Bowstring Store on Hwy 6.

Our water is still low. Boats coming to play on the lake, that have bunk trailers, would be better off putting in at the South access.

(Pic is for our daughter, who is selling Farm Fresh eggs)

We live at the end of a 1.7 mile dirt road…so I’m thinking I’m safe, but turn the corner to be faced on with a FedEx truck about to hit me head on. 😳😞🤬
He was about 20 yards from the stop sign and his response to me asking what happened was “all of a sudden I saw your truck grill.”

My response….How didn’t you see the Stop sign? (That I just turned at, with the right of way and kinda shaken that this actually happened )

He was going so fast that if that didn’t just happen, what would have happened to him?…..this is my thinking…

I kindly said to him (mind you it took everything I had to keep my calm) “I’m not sure what you’re going through, but I’m sure this company (I gestured at the truck) isn’t worth you,or me, are worth dying for.”

I proceeded down our road…in shock, and finally realized what just happened.

I was 2 feet away from hitting a HEAD ON! 😳

Walleye spawn take update from Doyle Hass, Assistant Area Supervisor | Division of Fish and Wildlife:

Dock construction will continue Thursday and Friday, and we plan to put the webbing in on Friday. If all goes well, we should start seeing fish on Saturday.

This year’s quota is just under 600 quarts, and we expect to run through Tuesday. Because the Grand Rapids hatchery is still under repair, our local eggs will be hatched in Bemidji or Cass Lake.

We are also participating in a delayed fry hatching project, which means a small portion of the eggs will be collected about a week later than usual. The dock and webbing will stay in place during that time, but the trap will not be operating for a few days.

Our quota has not increased — part of it is simply being collected later than normal. Thanks for following along with this year’s operation.
