Northern Acres Resort On Bowstring Lake north of Deer River, MN You and your family can gather to enjoy nature and each other at our family-owned and operated resort and campground.

The on-site restaurant, open for lunch & dinner Thursday through Saturday, acts as general store, bait shop and resort office. We are open from mid-May through September and offer daily, weekly and seasonal reservations.

The ice went off Bowstring Lake after a light rain on Friday, April 24. The lake level is up a little from last year and we are eager to get our new docks in! It's still around freezing overnight but we are busy raking and getting cabins ready for Opener Weekend. In between chores, we are enjoying watching the trumpeter and tundra swans and listening to the loons! We're almost ready for Fishing Opener weekend! Be warned, though, that water levels are very low! Both docks are in, as of last night. Cabins and shower house are cleaned. Millions of sticks have been picked up. And, best of all, shower stalls in the shower house have cool new polyurea floors to replace the ugly, stained linoleum! There's a little last minute raking to do and setting up the fish cleaning house but that's it! The forecast is for beautiful, warm weather and we're looking forward to seeing everyone after a long winter!!

Spring is on the way -- very slowly! We got a little rain Thursday and the grass began turning green immediately. The rain also turned the lake ice black and melted it along the shoreline. Lots of ducks and blackbirds are arriving and I spotted a beautiful pair of trumpeter swans right in front of my house!

We have added a cell phone number for reservations: 218-910-4073. David can now answer the phone even when he's plowing snow or mowing the lawn! More convenient for everyone! Also, our new campground dock with resin decking arrived and will be installed this spring.

We put the dock in yesterday. Still only about knee-deep at the end. It feels great to have that task done!!

Bowstring Lake is much lower than normal. On Sunday, David walked out to where the end of the main dock usually is and the water is only up to his knees!! It's going to be a challenge to launch boats unless we get lots of rain between now and Fishing Opener. The bright side is that the swans and other water birds can easily reach seaweed and other delicacies.

Fall has arrived!! After a long, hot, dry and smoky summer, temperatures are finally in the 40s and 50s and most of the trees have shed their leaves Besides the usual fall tasks of raking up leaves and washing all cabin bedding, David and crew spent several days digging an eight foot deep hole to replace a broken water hydrant at Cabin 3. We were very lucky that it happened at the end of the season!! We took the docks out a couple of days ago, so we're nearly ready for the cold and snow that's bound to be here soon. Thanks to everyone for making our 2023 season fun and successful!
