We all know Lake Winnibigoshish is known for its famous Walleye and Jumbo Perch but do you know the lake also offers other highly targeted species including Northern Pike, Muskie, Black Crappie, and Bass to name a few? Yeppers!

🦅 Nature's Truest Form of Freedom 🇺🇸

Guess what today is, it’s Bald Eagle day!!! One of my (Kelley) favorite hobbies, photographing those majestic birds right here on the shores of Lake Winnie and inland.

👉🏻 Did you know the Chippewa National Forest is home to one of the highest breeding densities of bald eagles in the continental United States, AMAZING!!
🍀 Lucky for you, you don’t have to go far to see one or two!

🦅 On windy days, one can be seen cruising the shoreline overhead, sitting in a pine tree near Cabins 5 and 10 on a calm day and if you listen closely you can hear their chatter in the distance. Generally early mornings is a good time to listen while having a cup of joe ☕️ 😉

FUN FACTS:
🖤 Wingspan 5.5-8 FT, females are larger than males in size.
❤️ Bald Eagles mate for life, return to the same area of the nest year after year.
😮 Currently around 500 nests on the CNF
🤎 Speaking of nests, large white pines are excellent nesting sites.
🪹 Nests can reach 10 feet in diameter, weigh over 4000 pounds!!
🩷 Female lays one or two eggs (occasionally three or four)
🖤 Incubation lasts about 35 days, once hatched eaglets remain in the nest, fledge around 12 weeks and remain in the nest area learning how to fly and hunt by its parents for several weeks before embarking on its big adventure!

As in life, sometimes it’s just being in the right place, at the right time to capture the perfect moment at a safe distance of course.

🥂 Just Married 🥂

Congratulations to Anna and Adam!!! Beautiful day for a wedding and what better way to say their “I do’s” in front of family and friends on Inspiration Point with Lake Winnie in the background!

Gone From Our Sight, But Never From Our Hearts

For some of our older guests, we are saddened to relay the message that Della Barnett (Wally) recently passed away on June 12th and were asked to kindly share her obituary.

In case you are wondering, Della and Wally were owners of the resort in the 1960’s plus we helped Della celebrate her 100th birthday last year.

To Della’s family and friends, may your beautiful memories bring comfort and peace during this challenging time.
