Once upon a time, and it really wasn’t that long ago, most families didn’t stay at massive resorts when they went set out for a Midwestern lake vacation. Instead, they stayed in humble cabins like the those at McIntrye's Resort. Original to Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan, these one-bedroom cabins, with a simple kitchen and bathroom, were the accommodation of choice for most city families looking for
a summer escape. Nearly three-quarters of a century old, these get-away time capsules have been modernized for year-round use. Insulated, heated and air conditioned, and outfitted with screened porches, they are a repeat destination for families in the summer, ice fishermen in the dead of winter, and even locals in need of a nearby retreat. The grounds on this multi-acre property are also available for campers and feature water, showers, and a picnic shelter. The main cottage, where Pat lives, hasn’t ever been rented out, she says, but could be “for the right price.”
McIntyre's Resort doesn’t take online reservations, and Pat, a retired commercial artist and auction company owner, isn’t big on email either. She books all of her guests over the phone or in person. The cottages sleep four and are $125 a night, with a two-night minimum, or $825 a week. Included in cabin rentals is use of the resorts rowboats. Lakefront camping is $20 per person, per night. Most pets are welcome, and the resort is close to the Kettle Moraine Park, known nationally for its hiking and biking trails. The resort is also used as a special events venue for weddings, reunions and company retreats. Prices are subject to change without notice, and McIntyre's Resort is always sold out for cabins and campsites when major acts are performing at Alpine Valley. McIntrye Resort
