Join us next week for the park's first Full Moon Night event of the year on Wednesday June 11 at 8:15 pm.

In partnership with Western National Parks, we are pleased to welcome the 1st Armored Division Rock Band for a performance at the park's June Full Moon Night event. The 1st AD Rock Band is stationed out of Fort Bliss and serve the Army as ambassadors for on- and off-post events.

Join us for a relaxing evening on Wednesday, June 11, at 8:15 pm in the park’s natural outdoor amphitheater where you can enjoy the radiance of the dunes beneath a full moon while listening to music and tapping your toes in the sand. The program is free, but park entrance fees will apply. Seating is not provided at the amphitheater. You are encouraged to set up on the surrounding dunes and bring camp chairs, blankets, and coolers with food and drinks. Please help keep White Sands beautiful by packing out all your trash.

In the name of safety and efficiency for the new 911 system, the county is changing the addresses of many rural residents and businesses. But, they are actually making things even more confusing for emergency services to find us. Not to mention the costs and worries they are causing us all.

I had 2 addresses for decades - for my business and house. Emergency services could always find us. A week ago, I find I now have 3 addresses. When I pointed out errors, complained and asked for an appeal (that every other county in NM will provide), the Luna County GIS Department did a HUGE change and totally messed everything up. They made our driveway a street name and now we have FOUR addresses. As of now, we don't even have an address on the main road - which we have had since the 1950's. It seems arbitrary and malicious at this point.

These changes, in the name of safety, may actually lead to confusion and delay of emergency services that could cost someone their life!! And cause the county legal liabilities in the future. My customers are angry and scared at the thought of medical help not finding them in time. Many are elderly and have life threatening conditions. On top of all that they must spend time and money changing all their mailing information. I am publicly requesting an appeal and a common sense solution to this situation. As usual, when the government tries to solve a problem they often make it worse. Would love to hear from anyone else having problem with these changes. Thanks for reading. Deanna Birchfield
