Our latest guests turned their stay into a girls’ Mahjong weekend, playing on the wraparound porch, enjoying the porch swing, and making memories throughout the house.

Hearing how much they loved the decor, the little details, and the overall experience means so much to me.

I put a lot of thought into making each of our properties feel special, so knowing our guests notice and appreciate those details is the best compliment I could ask for.

Another 5-star stay at Doc’s Holliday Inn!

We did have a little hiccup at arrival when our guests tried their door code about an hour before the scheduled check-in time. The code is timed for check-in, but we were happy to override it and get them inside early. 😊 We’re glad they still said it was “no big deal” and had a great stay!

Sometimes a stay means a little more than just a getaway. ❤️

This past week, we had the opportunity to host a family at Doc’s Holliday Inn after an unfortunate event left them needing temporary accommodations through their insurance.

While we wish the circumstances that brought them to us had been different, we’re grateful that Doc’s could give them a comfortable place to call home during a difficult week.

One of the things we love about hosting is knowing that our homes can serve different purposes. Sometimes it’s a weekend away, sometimes it’s visiting family, and sometimes it’s simply having a comfortable place to land when life doesn’t go according to plan.

Cooler nights are here, and honestly, this might be our favorite time of year at Doc’s Holliday Inn. 🍂♨️

Spend the day exploring Denison, grab dinner downtown, then come back to a hot tub waiting for you.

Afterward? Dry off, grab a drink and spend the rest of the evening around the fire pit🔥and in the hot tub.

That sounds like a pretty good fall weekend to us.

🤠 A Cowboy’s Prayer

There’s a lot to admire about the old cowboy way of life. Freedom, hard work, humility, generosity, respect for others, and gratitude for the simple privilege of living life on your own terms.

Those values come through beautifully in “A Cowboy’s Prayer” by Badger Clark, originally published in Sun and Saddle Leather in 1915. More than a century later, the words still feel right at home in Texas.

A Cowboy’s Prayer

I thank You, Lord, that I am placed so well,
That You have made my freedom so complete;
That I’m no slave of whistle, clock or bell,
Nor weak-eyed prisoner of wall and street.

Just let me live my life as I’ve begun
And give me work that’s open to the sky;

There’s something about that last thought that feels especially timeless: “Let me be square and generous with all.”

🤠 Talk Like a Cowboy, Pard!

Cowboys had a language all their own, and some of it is just too good to leave in the Old West.

Your pard was your friend. A buckaroo was a cowboy. If somebody told you to cowboy up, it meant it was time to grin, bear it, and get on with things. A bunkhouse was where the ranch hands called it a night.

At Doc’s Holliday Inn, we prefer a slightly different version of that last one. Our “bunkhouse” comes with comfortable beds, modern conveniences, and you won’t have to ride the line before breakfast. 😂
