About a half an hour from our cabin. Beginning May 16th in New Hampshire, you can ride a lunch train through the stunning Mount Washington Valley and over the rugged Crawford Notch aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad’s “Mountaineer” excursion! Easily one of the most memorable experiences of the warm season in the state, this 4 to 4.5-hour trip leaves from North Conway and covers about 50 to 60 miles round trip. The ride follows the S**o River, rolls through mountain woods, crosses high viaducts, and climbs into the rocky crags near the top of Crawford Notch. The train is made to feel like a classic post-World War II streamliner, with 1950s-era passenger cars and three seating choices: Coach, Comfort, and Observation Dome. Regular-season train-only tickets start at $75 for adults, $52 for kids, and $17 for infants; high-season rates start at $83, $63, and $31. Lunch costs extra and must be selected when buying tickets at least 48 hours before departure. Options include ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, vegetarian, and child boxed lunches with snacks, dessert, and bottled water. If you want to see the "real New Hampshire", this is an excellent way to do it!
