Today we visited the Temple Mound Museum and Cultural Park area in Fort Walton Beach!

One of the things we love about living on the Emerald Coast is that there is so much local history to explore beyond the beaches. This was a fun little outing and a great reminder that sometimes the best attractions are right in our own backyard!

The Heritage Park & Cultural Center is home to four museums in one location. We visited the Indian Temple Mound Museum, the historic Camp Walton Schoolhouse, the Garnier Post Office, and the Civil War Exhibit Building. The Temple Mound itself dates back roughly 800–1400 AD and tells the story of the Native American cultures that lived in this area long before us.

🎟️ Admission: Adults $5, Seniors/Military $4.50, Children 4–17 $3. Admission includes all four museums.

🕙 Open Tuesday–Saturday, 10 AM–3 PM

And for our guests at Home Sea Home in Destin, it’s an easy little drive from the condo, a perfect option when you want to take a break from the beach and explore a little local history.

And while you’re in town, enjoy the historic main street lined with shops and restaurants as well as a few photo ops😂

Spent the day at Norriego Point Park where you can choose the Beachside Swimming Coves or the Harbor side! We also wanted to show the Destin Water Taxi because it’s a great way to get around the Harbor to shops, restaurants & bars from our neighborhood on Holiday Isle in Destin. Check out their website or call the number on the Boat for more info!
