From the Office of the M.W. Grand Master Hon. Dorian M. Smith:

Greetings Michigan Prince Hall Family.

I hope this communication finds you and your families doing well!

Due to the current renovations ongoing in the building, it is necessary that we close 3500 McDougall until November 1, 2025. Although we are excited about the forthcoming renovations and the enhanced experience it will provide to our members, the safety of our members remains at the forefront of our minds and therefore this decision was made with that in the highest regard.

Effective immediately, NO meetings or events are to take place in the building until a subsequent communication from me is distributed giving notice that it is safe to return to the building. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Please note that we are working with the Detroit Masonic Temple to see if they can accommodate us during this period for our meetings. In the meantime, any lodge that meets at 3500 McDougall will receive a free dispensation to meet on a different day or via Zoom or other electronic meeting platform during the month of September (no ritual to be performed if meeting electronically). If you choose to meet on a different day, please alert the Grand Secretary and your District Deputy Grand Master. A separate communication will be distributed regarding meetings in October.

However, in order for the renovations to be completed in a timely fashion, it is required that all items belonging to the Grand Lodge, Grand Chapter of OES and Appendant and Concordant Bodies (including related local organizations) be removed from the Auditorium ASAP beginning Thursday, September 11, 2025. The Grand Lodge has acquired another container that will be placed on the premises and used to store your items.

We thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we continue to renovate our Grand East. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Brother Willie Butts had a special relationship with Redeemer Lodge #53 as well as Redemerette #54 and always had a kind word for everyone that he encountered. He will be truly missed.

The Brethren of Hiram Lodge No.1 would like to extend our deepest thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family of the late Bro. Willie J. Butts, Worshipful Master of Unity Lodge No.28. Worshipful Brother Butts was an upstanding Man of GOD, Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and exemplary Prince Hall Mason with a heart of gold and an unwavering dedication to community service and charity.

Bro. Butts along with his wife Sis. Jackie Butts, co-founded the Masonic Angel's, a special auxiliary dedicated performing community outreach initiatives throughout the Michigan Prince Hall Jurisdiction. Through their collective leadership several notable community service initiatives such as the Masonic Angels Trunk or Treat 🎃, Soup-Per-Bowl: Serving Our Seniors, Hat, Gloves & Hand Warmer Drive, and 4th of July Holiday Cookout for Seniors have become annual staple programs supported by the entire Michigan Prince Hall Jurisdiction.

Please continue to keep the family of the late Bro. Willie J. Butts, his wife Sis. Jackie Butts, the Brethren of Unity Lodge No.28 and the entire Michigan Prince Hall Family uplifted in your thoughts and prayers.
