Yes, you can have a pajama party at El Moore Lodge 😀 Especially if it brings together good friends like these!

They met at Michigan State in the 1990s and have been faithfully committed to getting together for a “girls weekend” once a year since 1995. They live all over the country now, and every year they go someplace new. We were so delighted that this year’s trip brought them to Detroit!

While most of them grew up in metro Detroit, only one of them, Shelly, still lives here, and we have her to thank for introducing her dear friends to the lodge.

“I was excited to share the El Moore,” she told us, “because it’s one of my favorite places in the city. I knew they would love the historic charm of the building, the gorgeous views from the rooftop rooms, and the great location. Detroit has changed a lot since we were teenagers, so I was eager to share it with them.”

We’re so honored to have been a part of this beautiful tradition!

Did you know that this is the second year El Moore Lodge has sponsored Noir City? The venerated traveling Film Noir festival takes place at our favourite place to watch a film and eat too much popcorn in Detroit—the historic Redford Theatre!

Hosted by Eddie Muller—the host of Noir Alley on Turner Classic Movies and the president/founder of the Film Noir Foundation—the three-day event takes place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and tickets are still available!

Seasons, El Moore’s neighbor and sister business, is a good food market and cafe that makes it easy to support Detroit’s local food economy. Their shelves are full of local options, ranging from Detroit and Michigan-grown produce to locally roasted coffee and grab-and-go meals from independently owned restaurants in the city.

We shop there every week for nearly everything that makes El Moore’s breakfast special, including fresh bread from CRUST - a baking company, gourmet granola from 🌟TheGranolaGoddess®️🌟, and delicious, nutritious snacks from Nakee Butter. We also love picking up bouquets from Blossoms to brighten up the parlor 💐

The El Moore greenhouse was made for peaceful summer mornings like these! A freestanding building on our grounds made mostly from repurposed materials, the greenhouse is a multipurpose space where our guests and residents are welcome to enjoy breakfast, catch up on some work, or simply unwind 💻☕️🍷🥙🌺🪟

What a delight to host some fabulous folks from the Urban Consulate last week! Founded by our old friend Claire Nelson in 2016, the Urban Consulate brings people together to share ideas for more just and equitable communities. Over the last decade, they have hosted hundreds of impactful and inspiring public conversations in Detroit, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Austin, Cincinnati and Chicagoland.

They were in Detroit last week holding a conversation between Urban Consulate host Orlando P. Bailey—pictured here with his fiancée Shannon—and Bryan Stevenson, a leading US social justice activist and the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative.

The talk took place on Sunday at the Garden Theatre here in Midtown, but we felt like we had early admission tickets all week—the parlor was buzzing! Thanks to Orlando, Claire, and the rest of the Consulate team for all their great work and for bringing such vibrant energy to our corner of Detroit.
