Definitely the time of year where a person really should have at least one rod rigged up with a glide bait. Lots of options out there now. I would rate my top three as the Pitching Puppet from Northland, the classic Jigging Rap and the Johnnie Darter for a heavier bait with rattles. What I love about the Pitching Puppet is that it seems to shine with a softer cadence which reduces fatigue. Kind of discovered that by accident when testing some of the early prototypes. Softer bobs or twitching it away from fish instead of the harder snaps. I attribute that difference to the larger tail fin. I find this lure is extremely easy to work especially for anglers new to glide baits.

🎣 8-7 Devils Lake Fishing Report 🎣

This week's cold front has definitely shaken things up. Water temperatures dropped by as much as 10 degrees in some areas, and the fish have been adjusting right along with it.

There still seem to be two different depth ranges producing fish. Some anglers are finding success out deep in 20–30 feet, while others are staying shallow in 5–10 feet. It really depends on the day. One day the deep bite shines, and the next the shallow fish take over.

The biggest key right now is covering water. Fish are spread out in small pockets, so don't expect every spot to be loaded. Trolling has been the most effective way to locate active fish.

🎣 Top presentations:• Bottom bouncers and spinners• Leadcore with crankbaits
Smiley blades continue to outproduce traditional spinner blades.

Our best colors this week have been:⚪ White🟠 Orange🥈 Silver

Target a trolling speed of 1 mph with bottom bouncers and spinners.

For crankbaits, Salmo Hornets and Rapala Shad Raps have been the go-to choices. Troll around 2 mph to cover water and locate active fish.

🐊 The cooler water has also improved the pike bite, and we're starting to see a few more perch showing up as well.

Fishing has been a little tougher this week, but there are still plenty of opportunities. Anglers are catching fish—they're just having to work a little harder for them.

The best advice we can give right now: Don't get married to one spot. Keep covering water until you find a pod of active fish.

🪱 We have leeches, crawlers, and minnows in stock.
