We will start taking reservations January, 2026 for the new year I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about how Hyde Park became a reality. In 1928 my grandparents Fred and Martha Hummel bought the delapitated Dewey Bar and some acreage in Dewey. They were German immigrants

and worked long and hard to develop a business and a home for their family. They had two children, Ruth and Richard. Ruth was my mom. She and my uncle Richard helped their parents with the daily chores and with the ten room Dewey Hotel guests. Some of these guests were the road crew that actually prepared and paved MT Highway 43. My grandma Hummel would cook for these men and take care of their hotel rooms. There was no inside bathroom facility so each room was equipped with a wash bowl and a "thunder mug". Cleaning these along with the spittoons in the bar had to be a chore that no one wanted. Cutting blocks of ice in the river and hauling them to the ice shed behind the house and covering it with saw dust to preserve it took a strong hand. Life wasn't easy and much repair was needed for the old building with little income so a little bootlegging had to take place. My grandfather had to do what he could to make things happen. My grandma was very upset when her husband drove her from Butte all the way into the country hoping that she would see the potential that he saw in this business venture. She cried and was upset and then went to work. They made a wonderful life in Dewey. My uncle Richard was a great fisherman but only hunted for the meat when needed. He went to work in the mines to help support the Dewey Bar after his father died and at the age of forty two he died of silicosis. This was such a loss. He bought the property that the Hyde Park is located on so that he could raise a few head of cattle. When my mom married Ted May there were four daughters, Martha, Donna, Cathy and me, Linda. We loved Dewey. We swam in the river and rode our horse "Lady" from morning till night. My family and my sister's families live from the east to the west coast but they all manage to make their way to Montana at least once a year to vacation in Dewey. Hyde RV Park is nestled in the quaint mining town of Dewey, Montana. Located in the heart of the Big Hole River Valley where you can experience some of the best fly fishing around, scenic ATV and hiking trails.
