As summer 2026 comes to a close, the woods are still green, the flowers are still blooming, and there are a few long afternoons left to simply sit and enjoy it.

The first hints of autumn are beginning to show. But for now, we’re holding onto these last quiet days of summer at Babbling Brook Cottages.

What do we do for a living?

Humbly… laundry. And toilets. 😂😂😂🙄

Today is a full turnover of all five cabins.

Two completely full golf carts of sheets, towels, blankets, quilts and everything else that comes off five cabins… plus another golf cart of trash.

I’m on laundry duty.

Lamar is in the cabins cleaning kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, scrubbing toilets and showers, vacuuming, dusting, and getting everything ready for me to come back through.

Then I remake every bed and put all the fresh linens, towels, quilts and everything else back in place for the next guests.

And then there’s the laundry.

Today is pulling it all out and getting the first loads started. But once the cabins are remade, the laundry keeps going.

All day today.

Tomorrow.

The next day.

And probably the day after that.

Because when five cabins turn over at once, the laundry doesn’t end when the cabins are ready. It just keeps quietly working its way through the machines until every last sheet, towel, blanket and quilt is clean, dry, folded and ready to do it all over again.

There are prettier parts of owning Babbling Brook Cottages.

But this is a very real part of it.

We’re the ones doing the cleaning, the laundry, the resetting and all the little things between one guest leaving and the next arriving.

So, what do we do for a living?

Today?

Mostly laundry and toilets. 😂

Happy National Dog Day to the one who has been part of Babbling Brook Cottages from nearly the very beginning.

Our beloved Stella — Chief Barking Officer, Head of Security, woodland supervisor, and constant companion.

She’s watched guests come and go, kept a careful eye on the property, accompanied us through countless cabin projects, and made sure absolutely nothing happens around here without her and us knowing about it.

One of the best parts of retirement? Every day belongs to you, not just your weekends.

Monday mornings can be for a walk through the woods instead of a morning commute. Wednesday can start slowly with coffee outside together. And a few September nights away don’t have to be squeezed between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Maybe it’s simply a change of scenery. Maybe it’s finally visiting that waterfall you’ve always wanted to see, or spending a few days somewhere that’s been sitting on your “someday” list.

There’s time to get outside, relax under the tall trees, enjoy a cozy historic cabin dressed for the season, light your fire and settle in for an evening with nowhere else you need to be.

Eight weeks. Five cabins. And not many green dots left.

This is our little cheat sheet for what’s still available at Babbling Brook Cottages through October 12. GREEN means available. RED means already booked.

And there are a few surprises hiding in there.

Labor Day - Bear Claw Cabin is still available. 3 night stay required.

September - A handful of quiet 2+ night weekday stays remain. The kind of September days when the summer crowds begin to fade, the trails get quieter, the evenings get cooler, and the woods slowly begin to change.

Early October - There are even a few openings as we move into peak fall foliage season.

This is also a pretty good picture of why we encourage guests to plan ahead. With only five historic cabins tucked into the woods, the calendar can fill long before a getaway feels “last minute.”

But every once in a while, a really good GREEN dot is still sitting there waiting.

For the waterfall walkers. The leaf peepers. The firepit sitters. The book readers. The stargazers. The couples who need a few quiet days together. And the people who simply want to disappear into a little cabin in the Poconos and do absolutely nothing for a while.

What book would you bring to finish right here?

You know the one. The book that’s been sitting on your bedside table since last Christmas. The one tucked into your bag, downloaded on your Kindle, or recommended by your best friend who keeps asking, “Did you read it yet?”

Behind Snugglers Notch, under some of our tallest trees, there are two chairs, a firepit, and absolutely nowhere else you need to be.

A book. Your favorite drink and snack. Maybe a fire later. No schedule. No rush. Just a little time to disappear into the woods together.

Sometimes a getaway gives you time to finally get back to the quiet things you enjoy.

Christmas 2026 at Babbling Brook Cottages: Fireside Pines theme is When Cardinals Appear.

This photograph is the inspiration. The woods in winter. Bare branches, everything quiet and still. And then, a cardinal.

That flash of red against the winter woods can feel like a memory, a familiar presence, or a little reminder of someone you still carry with you.

That is the feeling we are bringing inside Fireside Pines this year. Evergreens, warm lights, deep winter reds, and a flutter of cardinals throughout the cabin. On the trees. On the bed. Tucked into every room.

Do we offer discounts at Babbling Brook Cottages? Nope.

No AAA, military, senior, teacher, group, affiliation or locality discounts. And we don’t use dynamic fluctuating pricing either. Shocking, I know.

Our weekday, weekend and holiday rates are right there on our website, which is also the only place you can book with us. Our calendar is open nearly a year in advance, and once those rates are set, that is the rate. Book your favorite cabin months ahead, or somehow find one of those rare last-minute openings. Same stated rate.

There’s no “watch this reel until the end for a secret code,” no “BOOK RIGHT NOW and we’ll throw in a free cookie,” no weird little Tuesday morning window between 10:00 and 10:05, and sadly, having the last name Miller isn’t going to unlock anything either.

Every once in a while, though, we get the call: “I don’t need all that. I just want a place to sleep. Can I get a discounted rate?” And that always makes me wonder, okay, what part of your getaway would you like us to discount? The comfortable bed? Heat or air conditioning? Electricity? We could turn the water off.

Obviously, we’re joking. But there really is a point here.

Babbling Brook Cottages is not an à la carte experience. You don’t pick the parts you want and ask us to remove the rest to make it cheaper.

And we’re not simply an accommodation where you sleep while you go somewhere else to enjoy your vacation. Babbling Brook Cottages is the destination.

You’re choosing one of five restored historic cabins, the quiet, the setting, a really clean cabin, a private firepit outside your door, the little details, the way everything changes with the seasons, and a few days where you really don’t have anywhere else you need to be. That is the stay.

We don’t take pieces of the experience away to create a cheaper version. In fact, when you stay three nights or more, we often give you MORE with complimentary special-offer packages designed to help you settle in, enjoy the stay a little more and sometimes take a memory home with you. Maybe that is part of why so many of our guests choose to come back year after year.

We have always believed that the way a place makes us feel often becomes what we remember most. That is what we want you to experience here. And that is why we don’t discount it.
