Great news — the power company is putting in a "wildlife bridge" (aka "monkey bridge" or "sloth crossing") right at our gate. The monkeys will finally have a safe way to cross without using the road, Zoe's male visitors may start showing up more, and as a bonus, the rope bridge will make our driveway turn easy to spot. It feels like the right kind of tradeoff: if we're going to cut roads and build homes in the jungle, we owe the wildlife some help reconnecting what we've disrupted. Thanks to the The Sloth Institute Costa Rica for coordinating with our neighborhood in getting this done. ❤️

This is a great opportunity for a retreat or friend or family reunion. Very close to Ballena Royale with AMAZING views and a wonderful host and close to all the things we love about Costa Rica. You will be the hero of your group if you book this.

"If you're reading this, don't wait, book it now! One of the most amazing vrbo/abnb property we've stayed at so far. It has it all - whale's tail view, toucans and other amazing birds, monkeys, butterflies, hummingbirds, and Zoe the resident three toed sloth. The outdoor showers and tub along with a solar/battery backup system for any power outages is also a huge plus. Hosts were extremely helpful, we booked massages during our stay and it was great getting them out on the pool deck under the fans. Kids loved all the various bugs and wildlife that can be found on the property, was up every day at sunrise to check it all out. They also loved the pool design, shape, and floats provided, was is in it every day as well. Definitely get breakfast down the hill at Sibu cafe at least once during your stay, it's one of our favorites in the area. If we ever have the chance, will book this place again in a heartbeat. Thank you!!!"

Algae grows on sloth fur. Not by accident — the sloth cultivates it on purpose. The green tint helps it hide in the canopy. Nature is wild.

Do you need a vacation close to nature? Ballena Royale has open dates in early September and late November and up to Christmas in December.
