Have you ever had a dog that didn't have a flaw

One that obeyed every word and came at every call

Maybe there is one that you know

Mine, her name was CoCo

A sweet lady that patrolled my home

And never left me alone

If she barked, something was amiss

To have her around was pure bliss

A friend, a partner, has left me unwhole

Heaven will assuredly welcome her beautiful soul

Matriarch

For the lady that helped make our house a home

I lovingly and respectfully place this stone

She would be up before the sun

and work all day to 'get er done'

I was taught how in a country kitchen

to make food that was finger lickin'

We made lye soap, fig preserves, and lard

with her I enjoyed working hard

If sickness had me in its sway

by my side she would stay

To her family, she gave her all

A brilliant idea was born-a mail shed

Yes, believe it or not, each camper will have their own mail slot

There is a small porch with beautiful rails

And close by, we have a dumpster for all your unwanted mail

It's a short walk to our small building on blocks

Ode to a Road

It took most of a year

Ahhh it is finally here

A road so smooth and wide

that you actually feel yourself glide

I watched the building of it like a hawk

so when it was done

I had no reason to squawk

County roads are so inferior

yes I am saying it

Tanager Woods' road is far superior

Oh it is a road to behold!

But don't worry

There will be no toll!

I have always been an artist at heart

but never had the talent to make a start.

Then a project came to mind and I knew I had to find

someone that could do more than just draw a straight line.

Fortunately, I found two artists of great renown

and with their superb talent they made my vision real.

After several days of colorful work, it was a done deal.

No, it's not a rumor

the building with the amazing mural

is where you go to wash your bloomers.

We created a new scene and make this pledge

you can now wash your glad rags down by the river’s edge.

We still have the machines to save you time---just look for the tanagers’ clothes line.

The grass is cut the plants in bloom
Come one, come all to see!

Pink, yellow and orange scattered through
Some with beautiful smells
Some with a Pugh!

Come one, come all butterfly, bird and bee
But wonderful agile deer
In the cover of the night don't nibble on my flowers
Go eat and prance under the tree

With the bright sun, beautiful flowers and quietness of the woods
What an amazing place to be!

Life's been about working the road with Hank

For thirty sumpin years

Oh, the blisters, sweat, and tears


The washouts, potholes, and ruts

At times, it was a real kick in the gut

Just think, a road without bumps

No more bouncing on your rumps

But thanks to a generous soul, a friend

Soon it will come to a most welcomed end

Like a Captain without a sail

Back in the day, you know, before all the gray
Through the woods on my trusted mount I would ride
With my big iron on my side.

Then all of a sudden
From fright he would jump and then freeze
And I would hold fast by squeezing my knees.

A covey of quail just flew by
Flushed in the blink of an eye
I would soothe myself and my scared horse
so we could return to our course.

All my horses are now gone
But for that song I still long
So I sought to buy a piece of the past
A box full of birds to turn loose in the grass.

Birds to set free and summon far off memories for me.
A time when I had fewer cares
A time when their song would fill the summer air

They will be free to roam the fields and sing Bob White
And maybe scare someone else's horse with their flight.

Oh my, some children have come for a summer's stay

Ya know I gotta help them keep boredom at bay

They should be outdoors enjoying the land

Oh, maybe I'll build them a humongous box of sand

A place where they can build a large castle fit for a Queen

the fairest one that's ever been seen

A site where trucks move loads of sand

and small hands do the work of a man

Maybe look for a make believe rabbit

down a long dark hole

Or whatever one can imagine to delight the soul

Here's hoping that this will help make time pass

All of us country folk knowed
That one needs to keep working on the road
Yes heavy rains will wash em away
Then you’ll be stranded for many a day
Lots of use is also a big factor
So to be safe, I fired up “Hank”, my old tractor
Me and Hank spread tons of limestone and concrete
We helped it for now, but our work is never complete
As time goes by and my golden years appear
I‘ll be working the road with my Ol’ John Deere
