Building a fire is a great way to stay warm in cooler fall temperatures, but make sure you put out your campfire properly to prevent unwanted wildfires:

1️⃣ Drown: Pour a large amount of water onto the entire fire area.

2️⃣ Stir: Use a shovel to stir the ashes and embers, ensuring that the water reaches all parts of the fire.

3️⃣️ Feel: Carefully hover the back of your hand over the fire pit.

Repeat if necessary. If the area is still hot, drown and stir again, then feel until the area is cool to the touch.

Update: As of 6pm service seems to have been restored across fhe county.

We have been notified that ATT wireless, Verizon wireless, and T-Mobile are down in Stewart County due to a fiber cut. This outage is also affecting some other counties. The carriers are advising this outage will be restored by 7pm this evening. If you are on Wi-Fi and have Wi-Fi calling enabled, this will allow you to make calls and receive text messages. We will post more information if it becomes available but for now, plan on cell coverage to be down until this evening. This outage is not impacting landline or VoIP calls.

💧 Stay hydrated and drink before you feel thirsty. The amount of water you need may increase if you are doing a strenuous activity.

🥨 Pack salty snacks to replace the electrolytes you lose through sweat during your activity.

🌞 Don’t forget the sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses to minimize exposure to the sun and prevent damage from UV light.

👕 Pack lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes to keep cool. Dark colors can absorb heat from the sun and increase your body temperature.

🌳Take frequent breaks to give your body a rest. Rest under shade whenever possible to help your body cool off. Trees often throw the best shade.
