After four incredible years, some blood, sweat, and tears, and countless memories made, 1870 House will be winding down operations as a short-term rental. Our last day will be October 20, 2025, and we’ll be posting details of an estate sale soon.
In the time since we opened our doors, we’ve been tremendously lucky to host groups of all types for every occasion under the sun. Wedding parties to family funerals. Young women on winery crawls to octogenarians in town to see old friends. Those born and bred in Dowagiac to those who had never before heard of Dowagiac, but found our website and accurately thought it would make a great getaway.
There’s been no shortage of interest in short-term stays, but when some life changes on our part (all’s good!) coincided with the opportunity for the house to move on to its next phase in the hands of someone who loves it as much as we do — well, the time is right.
In the time since we started welcoming guests in 2021, we’re pleased that multiple new options for quality short-term stays have popped up in the Dowagiac area. If you’re in the market, our friends at the The Hatch Street Manor have a beautiful property with high standards.
That said — If you graced our doorstep and some of your positive energy rubbed off on the house: Thank you.
If you’re a member of the Dowagiac community and you shared our information with friends or family seeking unique accommodations: Thank you.
If you’re a local business owner who gave our guests a little extra love when they mentioned they were staying with us: Thank you.
And if you rooted for us from afar: Thank you.
All the best,
Richard and Zena
