It’s Aldo Leopold Festival week!
Hessel Schoolhouse Museum director Kristy Beyer and friends brought the love to Drummond Island in a different way this year with a four-hour excursion to Marble Head to view the rare wall-rue fern growing from the island’s limestone bluffs.
Bill Beaver led the group on a scenic historical loop with stops at Glen Cove and Pilot Cove, including a shoreline walk, spotted salamander sightings, and stories from the island’s past. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by The Country Store while learning about the historic settlement of Johnswood and the remnants of old marker trees that still tell the story of those who came before us.
It was a perfect blend of nature, history, and community—exactly the kind of experience that makes the Aldo Leopold Festival so special. 🌿🦎📖
