We are in FULL swing of the renovations & are truly looking forward to this project's completion! In the meantime, we are looking to partner with Cottage Industry Artisans, Crafts People, Makers of unique items.

We are creating a Walk-Thru Website, think of it as you would a virtual game. When it is up and running, our guests as well as those who find us via an Internet search, will be able to "click" on the front door of Morgan Mansion, and do a virtual tour of the Bed & Breakfast. Every single item that you see will be for re-sale, so if you fall in love with a vase or a Jet Tub, even a Titanium Wine glass, you will be able to "click" on the item(s) and you'll be directed to a link via our website for purchase, having items shipped directly to you!

Pop on back for more updates as we continue on our journey. We hope that any locals will feel free to share stories of the Old Mortuary, The Young family and any time spent within the walls when Morgan Mansion was a private home as well as a working Mortuary, Funeral Parlor & Furniture Store. Does anyone have any stories they'd like to share on the Old Mortuary property down in Dunsmuir, CA?

Searching through old archives from the Dunsmuir News of 1933, we came across an Obituary of a young man, Pietro Paletta, 19 of W**d, CA who died of a burst Appendix.

The Old Mortuary used to be called "Youngs Funeral Parlor & Furniture Store" (if you can believe that, you really can't make this stuff up!). Hundreds if not thousands of people were brought to the Mortuary where they were embalmed & laid out for viewing. Though we have a book that records many of them, we found it touching to read this particular obituary of one so young, and wonder if there are any descendants of the Paletta family still in the W**d area?

We'd love to hear stories from those who may have visited the Old Mortuary when it was still operating as a Funeral Parlor, or from those who may have come in to have a look when it was without residents (though the ghosts seem to still hang around on occasion)!

Renovations are under way so we thought we'd begin to post our progress and keep you all in the loop as we continue the process. We are looking forward to the day our doors open to welcome our first guests, in the meantime we will share occasional photos and other points of interest. Thank you!

It's so fabulous to be in the year 2015 and still see so many people revering Julia Morgan's work! Being the first female anything in this world is quite an accomplishment, to have created so many magnificent buildings that stand the test of time, exquisite!

Dunsmuir, CA is steeped rich, Railroad history and thankfully we still enjoy the convenience of passenger trains via Amtrak, whose station is located just down & across the street from the Morgan Mansion. The Dunsmuir Railroad Depot Society will host the towns annual Railroad Days on June 13 & 14, 2015 which is
always a well attended event.
