Mountain activities are in full swing around Durango, including the mountain bike park at Purgatory Resort.

Yes, there is a wildfire north of Ouray and another one west of Dolores but the towns are open and would love to see summer visitors support local businesses.

We're now getting some moisture in the form of rain and hopefully the monsoon rains start in the coming weeks.

Tidied up around Durango Valley View for our summer guests. Hit the Animas river trail for a segment of our modified valley loop - this time we cut it off at Trimble Lane. James Ranch was a great spot for a late lunch. Their regenerative farm and boutique market is one of our favorite stops.

The historic train is a gem and we recommend riding from Durango to Silverton. Why? Because the engine is working to climb up the river valley the entire way to Silverton and you can hear the steam engine working hard.⁠

It's gonna be a hot one in Durango this week with Summer in full swing. After your hike around Hidden Valley or Animas Mountain, grab some cool coffee drinks from . We recommend getting some food to go from Zia's or Sage. Ten minutes later, back at Durango Valley View, relax on the deck for an easy-going afternoon lunch.

Our back patio is awesome for morning relaxation before the sun rises over the house around noon. We've seen turkeys, owls, deer, squirrels and even pesky gophers.
