Torn up dryer sheets everywhere in the clean rooms!!! Our suspicions have been confirmed and our suspect is now in custody awaiting trial. In the meantime, he is being fed kibble, string cheese and leftovers. He is also being taken out for long walks. The suspect is requesting to stay in custody. We thank you guest Ross for capturing this on camera.

HELLO EVERYBODY! I’M HERE! My name is Sonny and I’m the newest addition to Country Sunshine. I’m told I’m a Labradoodle which is a fancy name for dawg. They brought me home from Denver on Sunday and I’m still trying to get used to all these new surroundings.

I understand there’s another furry creature in the house, a CAT, but I haven’t been introduced to him yet. I wonder if he’ll like me? Did I mention I’m almost ten weeks old, and I guess I have a lot of growing and learning to do. So far, we go for walks and then I nap in my kennel. When I wake up I have to make a lot of noise to get somebody to pay attention, but it doesn’t work very well. They’ve explained that I probably won’t succeed with that. I’ll still try.

Like my first night at my new home. Jodi put my kennel in her room so we wouldn’t bother anybody else. She seems to get up a LOT during the night——not sure why, but it might have something to do with me making a bunch of racket——you know, that attention bit. I loved what all she did——there was soothing music, and it got a bit boring, then the sound of a puppy heartbeat which was pretty calming, but then she put some of those battery candles around. Well, that was kind of weird, but whatEVER.

I’m looking forward to when I can have the free run of the house——I’ve spotted SO many things to chew on. Can’t wait!

Well, that’s enough for now——my paws are getting tired of typing. Will report more later. Please be sure to come and visit. So many new friends. So little time.

Regards,
Sonny

Dear Friends of Country Sunshine,
The sunshine is just a little less bright today. We’ve sadly had to say farewell to our beloved Anya, the beautiful black Lab who spent fourteen and a half years of her life with us. Some of you will remember her for the “AnyaGrams” she delivered bearing birthday or anniversary cards attached to her collar, or small gifts for children guests.
We knew she had some health problems, but we did not expect to be saying goodbye today. She began having breathing problems during the night, and as the day wore on she was obviously finding it harder and harder to get her breath, but true to her loving nature, she stayed bright-eyed and hopeful and didn’t seem to want to “be a bother”. At dinner time it became obvious that she needed help, and a call to the veterinary clinic which has been her medical care for her entire life resulted in the emergency doctor on call meeting Walter and Jodi there with the clinic technician.
When Walter returned home alone to report that they had done some tests, and Jodi had sent him for Norma “just in case”, it was with dread that I went with him back to the clinic.
The decision was made based on her age, her pre-diagnosed cancer, and the sudden developments that brought us there. We all three held her, petted her silky fur, and watched her go to sleep the last time.
As with every beloved pet anyone has ever lost, this one is always “the best”, “the sweetest”, “the most treasured”, and so it is with Anya. Her empty bed, her toys and treats, the lovingly made chicken and vegetable stew in the freezer, will remind us for some time to come, of how we miss her.
We like to think of her now as being an exuberant puppy, forever romping through the house with her favorite rawhide bone, playing in the river, chasing a squirrel thinking she could surely follow it up a tree, barking (sometimes to our embarrassment) at newcomers.
There will be another puppy to follow in her paw steps, but not just yet.

Our Story

One of the best ways to experience the serene beauty of the Colorado Rockies is by finding a retreat where you can truly relax, and there’s no better place than at our country home nestled in the San Juan Mountains. We epitomize the high standards of European hospitality based on the Austrian upbringing of one of the owners. He and his wife are eager to make your stay a pleasure, which includes well-planned gourmet breakfasts and desserts. When you awaken in our beautiful guest rooms, you’ll be greeted by a variety of wildlife outside your window, the lush Animas River Valley, and the sun rising over the Missionary Ridge. After you’re finished exploring, you’ll be welcomed back to your personal oasis where you can soak in the outdoor hot tub, relax on the deck, or unwind by the cozy fireplace while enjoying a different home-made dessert each evening. The reason guests return time and time again is because a stay in this serene Rocky Mountain haven is an unforgettable experience!
