Reminder that Small Mouth Bass spike started today.

Reminder that Small Mouth Bass spike started today.

Just got the notification of the Small Mouth Bass Flows that will start on 6/8. Fishing should still be great at this level and the walking trail will still be accessible.

Here is what the email said: “The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has requested to initialize the smallmouth bass (SMB) flow experiment.

Beginning on June 08, 2026, Flaming Gorge Dam releases shall begin ramping up to full power plant capacity for the SMB flow experiment. The experiment is scheduled to last 72 hours and ramp down will begin on June 11, 2026. Reclamation has coordinated with Western Area Power Administration to create the hourly scheduled release pattern for the ramp down period. Please note that releases in this schedule include fluctuations for power generation.

Release for June 13, 2026, and thereafter will be covered in a separate notification.
Additionally, to further disadvantage the SMB, the selective withdrawal structure (SWS) will be adjusted to release colder water during this period. Recreationists on the Green River should take caution and be aware the increased flows in the river will be cold and swift.”

We know there are a lot of rumors about Flaming Gorge and the water being lower, there is still a lot of water to enjoy and the boating, fishing, weather, and wildlife have been fantastic!!!

June is an especially ideal time to visit Flaming Gorge thanks to long days and warm daytime temperatures, which create prime conditions for boating, fishing, camping, and scenic drives.
