On November 18, we held our 2nd field trip in our Fish Lake Valley Heritage Museum. We had about 30 people, which included students, parents and staff. We are so grateful for everyone that showed up and showed so much interest. There is a great deal of history in each building, and what's unique about our museum is
that you can touch and feel everything around you, which makes the experience so much cooler. The kids had so much fun going around each building and listening to the history behind it all as all these buildings came from this community. They were also told of a story or two about some of the artifact(s) in each building. After
touring the whole museum, we talked about prehistoric times related to our location within the Great Basin and all the dinosaurs that roamed Nevada millions of years ago-they even got to touch dinosaur p**p and 14” petrified clams! While they were having lunch, we set up arts and crafts stations for rock painting,
dinosaur coloring, 3D dinosaur puzzles, dinosaur sand art and friendship bracelets. Every student got to take their own crafts home. At the end we used pie irons over a campfire to make pepperoni pizzas and PBM&Js, our own version of Peanut Butter and S’mores. I have to say, I think that was the best part.
Seeing every student involved in all the arts and crafts projects, the campfire cookout, the numerous questions while touring the buildings and the fact that many students when it was all over, returned to some of their favorite buildings to get a second look- is what made it so exciting to see all our hard work pay off.
We are so incredibly grateful to have had Dyer Elementary School with us. Every student was so respectful to our collected history and showed so much interest.
Also, a huge thank you to everyone that helped, from the Dyer Elementary School Staff and parents to the museum Volunteers-Perla Jimenez and Julissa Jimenez.
We are so excited to do more field trips and tours in the future!
