Why have a normal vacation when you can have a historic one? Kipling's Carriage House began its life in 1895 as the home to Rudyard Kipling's carriage and coachman, Matthew Howard, and family. 131 years later, this completely rehabilitated two bedroom cottage is a charming overnight rental perfect for a relaxing Vermont trip.

Nestled between the woods and meadows with stunning views all the way into New Hampshire, you may never want to leave. With its light filled kitchen in the former greenhouse, elegant wood paneled living space, and delightful bedrooms, it's a place that instantly feels like home.

Summer time is painting time!

Naulakha Green, the distinctive original color of the buildings across the Naulakha estate, has been getting quite a workout! This rich color, which The Landmark Trust recreated from original paint samples when we acquired the property, was recently reapplied to the Kipling's Gazebo, which they referred to as their "Summer House" when it was located on the site now occupied by the pergola.

Combined with its new cedar shingle roof, the Gazebo is now looking much like it would have when the Kiplings enjoyed it in the 1890s!

Free, but registration required.

Join us for a casual walk to learn the fascinating history of our National Register listed farm.

We did it!! We launched the Naulakha Campaign in 2024 as a generational effort to support a sustainable future for our flagship property. With the incredible support of so many individual donors, grants, and many more, we have reached our fundraising goal of $1,250,000! Thank you!

The results are already being seen. The Naulakha Stable opened earlier this year to rave reviews, with nearly all guestbook entries noting its peacefulness and comfort. New cedar roofs have been installed on the Ice House and Summer House as well.

What's left? Work on the Pergola roof is scheduled for November and at Naulakha itself next Spring. Meanwhile, required archaeology has been completed and a team is in place for the comprehensive drainage solution to be implemented at the estate this Fall and next Spring.

We can still use your support! Any additional funds received for the campaign will go toward additional capital needs at Naulakha, including a historically sensitive HVAC solution.

Get a sneak peak into The Landmark Trust USA's exciting plans for the Naulakha Estate in 2025 to preserve its history, protect it from climate change, and enhance the public's experience of this treasured place.
