This Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice deserves more than flags, speeches, and words of gratitude. It demands accountability from every leader who has the power to send Americans into harm’s way.
A true love of country does not require silence. It requires us to value the lives of those who serve, to question decisions that may cost more families their sons and daughters, and to refuse to treat war as politics, profit, or spectacle.
At the same time, so many people here at home are struggling through illness, loss, hunger, fear, and financial hardship. Patriotism is not only honoring those we have lost. It is caring for the people beside us and refusing to leave them behind.
Today, we remember the fallen. We honor their sacrifice. We hold tightly to one another. And we ask more of those entrusted with American lives.
