Brook Hollow Homestead

Brook Hollow Homestead A premium camping/hunting location. We strive to exceed your expectations and provide a great stay. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest.

When you reserve your dates/time with us, you have exclusive rights to your location and all the extra features that Brook Hollow Homestead has to offer. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixt

ure of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries.

Who's ready to spend some time relaxing next to the pond with a crackling campfire? Now is the time to book your next escape to Brook Hollow Homestead.

Our Chinese Chestnut nuts are finally sprouting. I stratified and planted 43 nuts. We currently have 24 that have sprouted. Hopefully more will sprout over the next week or so. These are in a new air Pruning bed that I built over the winter.

I still need to check on the 24 seedlings that I put out in the wild last Fall. Always the eternal optimist.

We still have available dates for this Spring, Summer, and Fall at our Pondside Retreat. When do you want to chill out and relax by the pond with a beautiful, relaxing campfire, and listen to the birds sing? There is not a better place on earth to spend your evening, in our honest opinion...

We took advantage of the small break in our bad weather to get our garden planted. The chance of frost is behind us and it looks like three days of rain ahead of us. We now have Cherry Tomatoes, Bush Green Beans, Red and Green Bell Peppers, JalapeƱo Peppers, Leaf Lettuce, Cucumbers, Bok Choy, Garlic, and Asparagus as our garden plants.

Our Strawberries took a pretty big hit this winter bit the Grapes and Blueberries are looking really good so far.

What will be ripe and ready for picking when you arrive?

We now have a full two years of firewood ready to burn. This is the earliest we have completed this task in the past couple of years. We have 20 full baskets of firewood for the house, three baskets for campfires, and about a face cord or so ready to split as we burn through our on hand supply. We just need to place the steel roofing over the outside baskets to keep the rain and snow off of them.

It's always nice to know that no matter what happens in the future, at least we will be warm.

We love it when our guests/hunters not only get a chance to interact with the game in our forest, but are successful in harvesting a beautiful and large bird. This gentleman was from Missouri scored this long beard on his second morning here. He is now headed to VT, NH and finally ME.

Our first harvest of the season. It is always nice to see young people who want to be in the outdoors and their mentors that are willing to spend the time with them. It is our pleasure to be able to put them on birds. It's up to the hunters at that point to get the task completed.

It looks like Spring has finally sprung here at the homestead. The bulbs we planted last Fall are emerging and starting to bloom. That is the official kick-off to our hosting season. Our first hunters arrive on April 25th for the youth weekend of Spring Turkey Season and our first cabin guests arrive on May 3rd.

Will we be fortunate enough to see you as well this year?

The Spring Turkey Season starts in about two weeks. This is a large flock of 24+ birds and at least nine of them are Toms. There are sure to be plenty in the area to talk with and whisper in their ears. We still have days available to hunt, just look us up at landtrust.com.

With just over six weeks until the start of our Spring Turkey Season, our flock is looking very good after the hard winter we had. This bachelor group has nine Tom's in it and at least half of those are long beards. Will you be here to try to out smart them and take one home?
