This weekend was one of those that reminded me why I love what we do here at Pocono Ridge Inn.
A family of 5 from New York arrived at the Inn after what was supposed to be a special family trip to the Poconos took an u expected turn.
The dad planned their family trip from here because of his fond memories of the area and wanted to bring his family here to make some memories of their own. They rented a vehicle, stopped for a family dinner at a local restaurant, and were looking forward to enjoying their time in the Poconos.
Unfortunately, shortly after leaving dinner, their rental car had a mechanical failure. What should have been a simple vacation quickly became a frustrating situation. The rental company wasn’t much help and, unfortunately, seemed to make the situation even more difficult by having the family jump through hoops just to try to get some assistance. So eventually, the family got an Uber to our Inn.
When they arrived, The dad explained everything that had happened. I could see the frustration and worry on his face. He had planned this trip for his family and now he wasn’t even sure how they were going to get everyone home. I felt that anxiety… But they were here, so we made sure they could relax and enjoy the stay they had planned. I made a few phone calls and started working on a way to get the entire family home safely. Fortunately, we were able to arrange transportation.
They were able to enjoy the night, sit as a family and watch a movie and enjoy our family rooms and refreshments, they spent the night with us, and somewhere along the way, despite everything that had happened before getting here, they fell in love with our little Inn and the area around it.
After enjoying their breakfast in our lovely dining room and enjoying the amenities, Im happy to say today the family of 5 boarded a charter bus that pulled up just for them and headed back home together. Before leaving, they thanked us and told us they would definitely be coming back. That meant a lot to us.
We hear it from guests all the time:
There’s something about this place. They talk about the beautiful energy, the peaceful surroundings, and how something unexpected and wonderful always seems to happen here. Maybe it’s the history. Maybe it’s the mountains. Maybe it’s the people that come through our doors. I honestly can’t explain it. All I know is, we’re not the newest, biggest or most modern Inn in the Poconos, and we’re perfectly okay with that. Pocono Ridge Inn is quaint, historic, a little different, and definitely not like every other place you’ll find. But most importantly, we care about the people who stay with us.
Sometimes that means a comfortable room.
Sometimes it means a friendly conversation. And sometimes… it means making a few phone calls and finding an Uber ###L to get a family of five home. Lol
We’re grateful this family found their way to us, and we’re even more grateful that what started as a very frustrating situation ended with them leaving safely, happy, and already talking about coming back.
