Supermoon series: first photo from 6 am today, last photo from 7 pm this evening. It was a day past full moon, but still a stunner, loved seeing it as the sun rose, and tonight at dusk it was low and golden. Grateful to witness it morning and nite.

Quick recap on fall around the orchard. It definitely feels like we are saying goodbye to autumn 🍂 this weekend, still no frigid temps but moving somewhat in that direction. Mark did final mowing of paths today and added additional deer fencing. I prepped the place for guests, who used the fire pit on this cool clear night.

The colors of the orchard plants are beautiful in fall—blackberry, blueberry, peach, pecan, elderberry and aronia all shown here. And of course the apples, pumpkins and squash remain stars of this season. A few lone trees still have some color but mostly we are a few weeks past peak and on the watch for winter. ❄️

Won’t be much to share here during hibernation time, we will turn our attention to holidays with family and friends…as well as the very long winter projects list 😂 But we do gain an hour this weekend with the time change, and will certainly use it to rest. After all the growing, it’s good to slow down during dormancy…wishing you all some slower days to come.

Fall colors around here and the last three pixs are from that we visited on one of the most glorious fall days. Today is bleak and rainy here, but most of this month has been full of lovely autumn color. 🍁🍂🍎

Harvesting has begun even though it has felt like summer these past few days. Fermentation is underway as well and although still small amounts to experiment with, it’s really fun to be working with a lot of fruit we grew ourselves. The raspberries continue to grow and the old orchard trees give us plenty to work with this year, our 4th harvest season. Each year we know a bit more, refine our process and learn good lessons for the next one to come. Now if only the temps would drop so it would actually feel like fall 🍏 🍁 🍎

Spent several hours weeding in our three raspberry rows this morning. When it comes to razzies, it is a labor of love…they are just the best and by far my favorite fruit. (Yet they have no emoji of their own?!) We have (left to right) August Red, Anne (golden) and Polana. The beetles got to them some but still we are getting good fruit from all varieties. Some pics of elderberry, peach and apples in here too. We ate the first peaches that we grew ourselves 🍑 so sweet! And we continue to celebrate the small successes of our 4th year of planting and growing 🍎
