World Horse Day is a day to recognize and celebrate the incredible impact horses have had on our lives, our communities, and our history. From trusted partners on the ranch to lifelong companions, horses continue to teach us lessons in patience, resilience, trust, and kindness.

At The 1890 Ranch, we’re fortunate to experience that impact every day. Whether it’s through training, rescue, lessons, or simply watching our horses enjoy a peaceful afternoon in the pasture, we’re reminded just how special these animals truly are.

What's actually covered at The Foundational Years:

Picking up feet, leading, standing tied, and trailer loading, introduced at the right stage instead of all at once.
Plus early groundwork: lunging, liberty work, obstacles, and carrying a surcingle, all scaled to a young horse's growing body.

We will do short, positive sessions on purpose. The goal is a curious horse, not an overwhelmed one.

Most yearling “problems” don’t actually begin when they’re yearlings.

They begin much earlier- in those first few months of life, when many horses receive very little intentional handling. Those early experiences shape their confidence, curiosity, and willingness to learn for years to come.

The Foundational Years Clinic is designed around this critical window.

Together, we’ll explore how thoughtful, age-appropriate training during these formative months can help set young horses up for a lifetime of success.
