Today we are alive and well with over 350 members. We are very active in the Elk Grove & Sacramento region. We have active programs involving Veterans who are students at the local college campuses, as well as working with returning Veterans and their families. We meet the fourth Thursday of each month at the Elks Lodge #2577, 9240 Survey Road (South of Grant Line Road, East of Highway 99), Elk Grove, CA. Meetings start promptly at 7:00 p.m. and we have dinner and social time starting at 6:00 p.m.

This May, we honor service that never truly ends.

Military Appreciation Month is a time to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of the more than 9,000 veterans who call Elk Grove home. While their time in uniform may have ended, their dedication to service continues every day in our community.

At District56, Elk Grove’s Veterans Hall serves as a place of fellowship, understanding, and connection. It is a place where stories are shared, support is offered, and the bonds formed through service continue long after returning home.

The Veterans Hall is proudly home to four veteran service organizations that carry forward a shared mission of service and community:

• American Legion Elk Grove Post 233 (Main Office is located at the Veterans Hall)
• American Legion Laguna-Elk Grove Post 55
• Elk Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2073
• Marine Corps League Elk Grove Detachment 1238

Through mentorship, remembrance, advocacy, and continued service, these organizations help ensure that veterans remain connected to one another and to the community they helped protect.

This month, and every month, we thank our veterans and their families for their sacrifice, leadership, and lasting impact on Elk Grove.

If you or someone you love has served, there is a community here ready to welcome you.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Governor Newsom
Signs SB 694 Into Law

Veterans Unite to End Predatory Fees Targeting Those Who Served

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a major victory for California’s veterans, Gavin Newsom today signed SB 694 into law, strengthening protections against excessive and predatory fees charged to veterans seeking their earned benefits.
Leaders from multiple veteran service organizations stood together at the State Capitol for the bill signing, united in their commitment to protecting veterans from financial exploitation.

The American Legion Department of California was present in solidarity with fellow veteran advocates in strong support of the measure.

David Brambila, State Commander of The American Legion Department of California, Post 742, issued the following statement:

"Today California made it clear — we stand with veterans, not with those who exploit them.

I was honored to stand alongside fellow veteran service organizations as SB 694 was signed into law. In some cases, veterans have been charged up to $30,000 simply for assistance accessing the benefits they earned through service and sacrifice.

That is not advocacy. That is exploitation.

This law draws a firm line. It protects veterans from predatory costs, strengthens oversight, and ensures accountability for those who put profit over patriotism. Veterans should never have to sacrifice their financial future to receive the benefits they already earned defending ours.

When veterans are threatened, we unite. Today was proof that California’s veteran community stands together to defend our own."

SB 694 increases transparency in the benefits assistance process, reinforces consumer protections, and ensures veterans are safeguarded from unreasonable and excessive charges.

The American Legion Department of California represents approximately 62,000 members across more than 400 Posts statewide and remains committed to legislative advocacy that protects veterans, defends accountability, and ensures those who served receive the dignity and respect they earned.
