Five insects in the garden that make people flinch — and none of them are the problem they look like.

The daddy longlegs under the mulch has no venom and no fangs. She's not a spider. The "most venomous" story is completely false. She clears aphids, mites, and dead insects from the soil surface.

🌿 The minute pirate bug is the one nobody has heard of. Smaller than a sesame seed, black and white, easy to flick off without a thought. For her size she's ferocious — thrips, spider mites, aphids, and pest eggs disappear into that tiny beak all day. She may give you a harmless nip in fall. That's the worst she'll do.

The damsel bug is slender, light brown, and easy to mistake for a plant pest. She's a hunter — spearing aphids and small caterpillars wherever she finds them.

The paper wasp hunting caterpillars on your tomato leaves is doing the same job you'd do with a spray — just faster. A nest tucked under an eave and away from foot traffic can stay.

The garden spider's orb web catches flies, mosquitoes, and moths around the clock. The spider is harmless. The web is the one doing the work.

Let’s explore the second floor of the silo! This bedroom takes up an entire floor of the silo and can sleep 3 people with a double bed on the bottom and single bed on the top. We know it’s small but we want as many people as we can to stay here!
