More heavy rain and then some sun. Good for the fires, plants and earth. The sound of water dripping from the branches = MAGIC ! (The beautiful Bailey Hydrangeas are drooping from the moisture).

A fabulously, wonderful rainy day, we received over an inch ! As a dinner guest just was commenting about the gardens at Burntside, he remarked that the hallmark color Burntside Orange is a perfect foil for all the flowers. Somehow despite the lack of rain (before today) they are thriving....must be Lou's attentive watering.

One never knows what we'll see when it comes to wildlife. Deer we know are plentiful and easily seen; but this sighting with a young buck and fawn is a bit unusual and we think, fun. Taken + shared by a local resident on their early morning bike ride along County Rd 88.

Gratitude ! Whether you choose to enjoy beautiful Burntside Lake in a canoe, a kayak, a pontoon or boat; the lake is as beautiful as ever. Gratitude for 1,000 + fire fighters who have come to keep our homes, cabins, businesses safe !

Thanks to all for your e-mails, phone calls and concern for us; it is very appreciated.

As for now, we remain open. Smoke is an issue and comes and goes in waves; various apps indicate it is due to diminish which would be wonderful. The fires are serious and demand respect; we are fortunate to not be affected by the evacuations in place.

Guests who have been with us from the beginning and stayed are all grateful that the extreme heat has passed. Nicole has the kitchen open and ready to serve our guests + visitors. Lou just shared a video of a loon down in the bay catching a good-sized fish ….An adorable almost three year old just in The Lodge innocently said to her mom, “I can smell the sky” .

Independence Eve - Burntside Lodge
