As the temperatures rise and beach days start calling 🌊☀️ — this is your friendly reminder that heat (and the beach!) can become dangerous for our pets faster than we realize 🐾

At Grooming Tails, we care about their comfort, safety, and overall well-being… so here’s some important summer + beach safety education for our amazing pet parents 💛

🌡️ Pets don’t handle heat like we do
Dogs and cats don’t sweat like humans. They rely on panting and minimal sweat through their paw pads, which means they can overheat very quickly.

🔥 Hot pavement AND hot sand burn paws
Sidewalks, asphalt, and especially beach sand can get extremely hot. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws. Burns can happen in seconds.

🌊 Salt water toxicity is real
We know they love to play in the ocean—but drinking salt water can be very dangerous.

Too much salt can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, tremors, or worse.
➡️ Always bring fresh water and encourage them to drink that instead.

🏖️ Beach safety basics
• Rinse your pet off after swimming (salt + sand can irritate skin)
• Watch for strong currents and waves
• Keep an eye out for sharp shells or debris
• Provide shade—there’s often very little natural cover
• Take breaks often—beach play can be exhausting in the heat

🚗 Never leave pets in a car
Even with windows cracked, temperatures can rise dangerously fast.

💧 Hydration is EVERYTHING
Always provide fresh, cool water. Extra heat + beach play = faster dehydration.

🌳 Shade & cool-down time are a must
Umbrellas, tents, or short beach trips can make a big difference in keeping them safe.

✂️ Grooming matters in the heat

Regular grooming helps remove excess undercoat and allows proper airflow—but remember, their coat also protects them from sun exposure. Not all pets should be shaved, and we’re always here to guide you 💙

⚠️ Know the signs of overheating or salt toxicity:
Excessive panting
Drooling
Vomiting or diarrhea
Lethargy
Uncoordinated movement
Tremors

If you notice any of these signs, start cooling your pet down gradually and contact your vet immediately.

At Grooming Tails, every pet gets a snout-to-tail wellness check, and we always keep a close eye on how they’re feeling—especially during these hotter months.

Because The Grooming Tails way isn’t just about how they look… it’s about how they feel 💙🐾

Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy those beach days responsibly 🏖️💕

Hey EI,

Friendly reminder, as the temps drop this weekend, please keep an eye out on all of our local waterways for cold stunned sea turtles.

They can suffer a type of hypothermia when the water temps drop suddenly. They’ll go into shock and strand. They will appear dead.

If we rescue them quickly enough, they can be warmed up slowly, rehabilitated, and released.

Please call us asap. For Emerald Isle call 252-363-0011
or the NC Stranding Hotline at
(252) 241-7367

Please call us and wait for instructions .
Thank you…..

This conservation work for sea turtles in Emerald Isle is authorized by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
(ES Permit 25ST13).

Getting ready for this crazy weather weekend. Beautiful sunrise this morning!!!
