Chickens don't really care if the clocks are set back or not. They can't tell the time, but to keep them from going to molt and continue laying eggs in the winter, chickens optimally need 12 hours of daylight each day. When the days get shorter, we add light to the coop in the morning hours before sunrise. You also may see our lights on after sunset to help draw the chickens to the coop before the predators come out.

Bald Eagles are magnificent birds. An adult Bald Eagle can have a wingspan of more than 6ft. However, they are opportunistic feeders and love to turn our free-range chickens into an " ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET." With laying hens costing between $50-75 dollars apiece, depending on the breed, it is expensive to replace our "girls." Our farm hand Cody is working hard to put up overhead netting to discourage the eagles and encourage the "girls", to stay out of the hen-house during the day.
