Photos from Patrick's walk around Camp this morning revealing more fresh snow!
Camp Director Torin, camp staff, and all of us at Chief Seattle Council wish to extend a giant thank you to the Washington State DOT (WSDOT), their maintenance crews, Active Construction Inc., engineers and the additional support staff that have worked tirelessly to repair SR410 to its full capacity!
More than half of the roadway was undercut and washed away in the recent storms but thanks to the hard work of these teams, we are able to safely welcome Scouts and families to Winter Camp! We can't wait to see you!

The first snow of the year arrived at Camp Sheppard yesterday! We are excited for the days ahead and the fun Winter Camp will bring to our scouts!

Here's an update on Camp Sheppard. WSDOT has opened to SR410 to one way travel between Enumclaw and Greenwater. This is OUTSTANDING news for Winter Camp!

Camp experienced 65mph winds Tuesday night, and had several trees come down in the storm. Damage was assessed on the 17th. One tree fell and landed on a propane tank causing a rupture. Thanks to Pierce County Fire District 26 for a rapid response to this HAZMAT incident, and to Peak Propane for coming out same day to replace the tank. Other damages were mild and limited broken fences and a ton of branches and small trees that created a lot of cleanup work for staff and volunteers!

Winter camp is right around the corner, and Mother Nature reminds all of us that a Scout should "Be Prepared" for winter weather when traveling and recreating in the mountains! We're looking forward to seeing what this cold snap brings and to seeing you all soon!

Today we check in on Camp Sheppard. Camp Director, Torin, told us they experienced significant wind and rain over the past 14 days. The nearby community of Greenwater had severe flooding requiring distribution of around 700 sandbags. Camp Sheppard came through the last storm largely unscathed with only some minor erosion issues and a few small downed trees that caused no damage.

The camp is ready to begin a wonderful winter of Scouting in January and looks forward to seeing you. While Highway 410 is currently closed due to damage from the high water levels. Currently, local convoys are the only way to access the property, WSDOT is working round the clock to repair the situation and we will know more in coming days and keep you updated.

The staff training scheduled for last weekend was impacted by the road closure. Staff needed to be moved as access was not possible Don and Dave at the Cascade Scout Reservation were gracious, pitching in to provide a location and help the Camp Sheppard Staff accomplish their training on very short notice. We are grateful for their support and dedication to scouting excellence in the Chief Seattle Council. The CSC Camp Staff is truly one family working towards one mission!
