Are your Memorial Day weekend plans for the river booked and in motion? Rain and cooler temperatures are in the forecast, but have no fear, we are here to help you so you have a successful dry and warm river trip.
Pro Tip #1: Life jackets are the most important item, so ! Not only will a life jacket keep you afloat if you should fall out of your boat into the cold 67-degree water, but they will also keep you warm by insulating your core body temperature. And even if you like the colder water, be sure to while swimming or fishing, as cold-water shock can happen quickly in these water temperatures and can lead to drowning.
Pro Tip #2: Layer, layer, layer! Having a good raincoat and several layers of synthetic quick dry or wool clothing will prevent hypothermia and can literally save your life. Wearing a hat and wool socks will also prevent the escape of heat from your body. Cotton clothing such as t-shirts and jeans are a big no-no on the river 👎, so save them for around the campfire and BBQ. Having a dry bag or water sealed container with extra clothing should you need it is essential. Please remember garbage bags and zip close style plastic baggies will not keep your items dry.
Pro Tip #3: Limit your time outdoors and keep a close eye on friends and family especially children and the elderly. Avoid alcohol and stay hydrated by drinking warm beverages such as water, herbal tea, cider or cocoa. If you do get wet, remove your wet clothing, replace with dry ones and get out of the elements into a dry warm environment.

We hope everyone has a safe, dry and warm Memorial Day weekend!

Mandatory life jacket wear season ends on May 1, but they are ALWAYS mandatory for children under 13 years old and highly recommended for adults! 🦺🛶

No one has ever drowned in the park while wearing a properly fitted and fastened life jacket.

The river's temperature is in the mid to high 50°s, so cold-water shock and hypothermia are still very possible. Life jackets will keep your head above water and greatly increase your likelihood of being found if you do fall in. Wearing your lifejacket is the only way to ensure your safety while on the river.

Spring rains and thunderstorms have already been rolling in, so keep a watchful eye on the weather and be prepared to leave quickly if conditions deteriorate.

Swimming and boating season will be here before we know it!
