Since her rescue on July 9, 2015, Noli Bear’s story has circulated around the world. We hope this serves to focus attention on black bears and the efforts of Appalachian Bear Rescue (and other bear rescue organizations) to help orphaned and injured cubs for release back to the wild. We fight centuries of myth and misconception regarding these wonderful animals, and hope that this publicity, as short-lived as it will be, will encourage people to learn more about black bears. With knowledge, comes respect.
At present, Noli’s world is the size of The Cub House, but the curators hope it will expand soon to the Wild Enclosure. Her confinement to The Cub House is necessary while the curators observe her recovery and make sure she is healthy enough to take the next step on her road back to the wild: she’ll meet Bonnie Blue, Ridgeway, Marvin and Carter. And what are they doing while Noli is in The Cub House? Bonnie Blue was entertaining herself with a stick, while Ridgeway and Marvin engaged in a wrestling match. Ridgeway is bigger than Marvin, but Marvin is a feisty cub, and can hold his own. Carter waited until the three cubs climbed up a tree before going down to forage on his own. As usual, Woody the Yearling, remained hidden in the undergrowth of his own enclosure.
We can’t thank you enough for your generosity in welcoming Noli Bear and for supporting the other five bears in residence. Without you, Appalachian Bear Rescue wouldn’t exist. We try to answer your questions, but there are so many comments,we’re bound to miss a few. Please don’t hesitate to email your question to:
