That spotted coat isn’t just cute — it’s survival.

Baby elk are born with white spots that mimic dappled sunlight through the trees, making them nearly invisible to predators when they lie still. Mama wanders off to feed, and the calf’s whole job is not to move.

The spots fade by late summer. For now, this little one is doing exactly what nature designed.
