A visit to Estes Park isn't complete without driving Trail Ridge Road—the highest continuous paved road in North America! Climbing to 12,183 feet, this incredible drive takes you above the trees and into breathtaking alpine tundra with panoramic views you'll never forget.

A few fun facts:
🌄 Trail Ridge Road reaches an elevation of 12,183 feet.
🌼 It crosses one of Colorado's largest alpine tundra ecosystems.
🦌 Wildlife sightings are common, including elk, marmots, bighorn sheep, and sometimes even moose.

Around here, traffic sometimes comes to a stop for a pretty incredible reason... our local elk! 😄

If you're visiting Estes Park, don't be surprised if your drive through town includes an unforgettable wildlife encounter. During the fall elk rut, seeing an "elk jam" is all part of the mountain experience—and hearing the bugling of the bull elk is something you'll never forget.

If you come across wildlife:
🦌 Give them plenty of space.
📸 Snap a photo from a safe distance.
🚗 Relax, be patient, and enjoy the moment. It's not every day a herd of elk has the right of way!

🏔️ 1. Loch Lake at Sunrise
Beat the crowds and watch the morning light reflect off one of Rocky Mountain National Park's most beautiful alpine lakes. Early mornings here are peaceful, unforgettable, and often offer great wildlife viewing.

🥾 2. Andrews Glacier
One of our absolute favorite hikes! It's nearly as breathtaking as Sky Pond but sees far fewer hikers. If you're looking for incredible scenery without some of the crowds, this one deserves a spot on your itinerary.

☕ 3. Coffee on the Rocks
Grab a fresh cup of coffee (or an evening cocktail!), relax by the pond, and feed the ducks while enjoying the mountain atmosphere. It's one of the most relaxing places in town and a favorite among both locals and visitors.

🎳 4. The Bull Pin
Need a fun break after a day of hiking? The Bull Pin is open year-round and is perfect for families, rainy afternoons, or evenings out. Enjoy bowling, arcade games, and don't miss 50¢ wings every Wednesday! 🍗

Looking for dog-friendly adventures? Here are a few of our favorites:
🥾 Hermit Park Open Space – One of our favorite places to hike with dogs! Just minutes from downtown, this beautiful open space offers miles of scenic, dog-friendly trails with incredible mountain views. Dogs are welcome on leash.
🌲 Brainard Lake Recreation Area – Worth the drive! The alpine scenery is breathtaking, and several trails outside Rocky Mountain National Park are dog-friendly, making it one of our favorite day trips with our pups.
🚶 Lake Estes Trail – An easy, scenic walk around the lake that's perfect for the whole family (including your dog!). It's a great way to enjoy mountain views without a strenuous hike.

🍽️ After your adventure, relax on one of Estes Park's dog-friendly patios. Some of our favorites include:

🐾 A quick reminder: While dogs are welcome in many areas around Estes Park, they are not permitted on hiking trails inside Rocky Mountain National Park (except certain paved areas, campgrounds, picnic areas, and roadsides). Fortunately, there are plenty of incredible dog-friendly trails just outside the park!
