Spring is starting to show off here in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and we thought you might want to see it!

The early-spring trees (Red Buds and Bradford Pears especially) have just begun full bloom, the grass is green again, and downtown is chock full of daffodils. Maybe it’s just us, but it seems like winter lasted forever this year, and we are thrilled to see the spring colors of Mother Nature coming out again!

Eureka Springs continues to draw visitors with its natural beauty and the preserved Victorian buildings of its Historic District, which encompasses the entire downtown area. Right in the center of that Historic District, just a few hundred steps away from Main Street shops and restaurants, you’ll find The Benton Place Inn, surrounded in the rear by a two-story-tall wall of rock that’s typical of the Ozarks and Eureka Springs.

We would love for YOU to visit us here in Eureka Springs! Come see for yourself why The Benton Place Inn has FIVE STARS on TripAdvisor!

nails it on being the funkiest town in the South! We love for folks to "let their freak flag fly" here!

What is something funky or freaky you've ever seen or experienced in "Eufreaka Springs?"

We'll go first: Years ago, a couple weeks after moving here, we went to Chelsea's Cafe & Bar to eat, on a "regular ol' Saturday afternoon" (no such thing here). Looked up and a human-size bunny rabbit was hopping in. Hopped right by me. A 6-foot-tall, pepto-pink bunny rabbit, ears flopping, tail bouncing. I could not speak, just grinned and giggled. The bunny rabbit hopped to the bar, ordered a drink and hopped out to the patio. By the time I got outside, the bunny was gone and the drink glass was on the table, empty. HAHA!

Come visit us in Eureka Springs, the quirkiest little town in the Mid-South, is nestled among the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas. Selected as one of America's Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Eureka Springs has been a destination for romantic getaways, “self-care” travel (long before it was called that!), and outdoor adventures since before the town’s incorporation in 1880, during the Victorian Era. Right in the center of the Historic District, just a few hundred steps away from Main Street shops and restaurants, you’ll find The Benton Place Inn, surrounded in the rear by a two-story-tall wall of rock that’s typical of the Ozarks and Eureka Springs.

Spring has arrived in the , and it’s evident in every direction at Blue Spring Heritage Center just outside of , where beautiful flowers are taking root after being transferred from their greenhouse into the acres of gardens. This time of year and through April and May, there are everywhere!

Blue Spring is open again for walking tours with the arrival of spring. Hours are 9-6 daily.

The park at Blue Spring Heritage Center surrounds the state's second-largest natural spring, which produces 38 Million gallons of water every single day! It is astounding how blue the water is. ( was used on any of these images.)

Also along the tour of is a bluff where the stopped to rest for a few days during their march. The history there goes back much further, though. Archaeologists in the '70s uncovered fire pits and evidence of life such as small arrow points and Woodward Plain pottery, confirming the presence of American Indians dating back as far as 1700 AD. (Yes, arrowheads are found there frequently by guests and staff.)

Researchers have uncovered proof that the tribes considered the area and put aside differences as they held their rituals there.

If you go, *DO NOT SKIP* the 15-minute intro film offered at the beginning of the tour. It includes underwater footage from when scientists and explorers sent divers down to try to explore the bottom of the spring... I won't ruin the ending, but rest assured that it is fascinating and leaves you wanting to know much more (or send divers down deeper to film again!).

The gift shop is also really great, with beautiful Native American art and flutes, plus some local art, gorgeous moccasins and the like.

was formerly known as before it was refurbished some years back, then registered as a historic Trail of Tears site, and opened for tours and private events (you can rent various areas for weddings and receptions there).

The sound of the spring water bubbling up from the ground and spilling into the channel that leads to the is so peaceful and calming.

Admission is free for local residents and very reasonably priced for visitors. (https://bit.ly/3f2AgP9)

These historical postcards show what Eureka Springs looked like 100-plus years ago – and most of these scenes are still similar today, but so much prettier in living color, with beautiful gardens around the springs downtown and 100 years’ worth of “new” trees!

But even these postcards don’t tell the early story of Eureka Springs: Long before tourists began coming here, Native Americans flocked to some of the 62 natural springs flowing from the giant rocks beneath the surface of the hillsides, considering them to be healing waters. These springs played a vital part in the modern development of the community, as businessmen built a resort community around the springs and began marketing the “curative properties” of the cold mineral waters that flowed year-round – and still do to this day.

Several dozen of the springs are now the focal point of small park areas throughout the town, and they remain popular destinations for tourists and locals alike. For more information on where and how to find these springs, visit https://www.exploresouthernhistory.com/eureka9.html.
