PUBLIC SERVICE MESSAGE:

More and more we are experiencing guests who show up at our property completely confused as to the cabin, suite, or unit they are being checked into.
100% of the time they have booked through one of the On-line Travel Agents, ie. Expedia/affiliates, etc.

Why this occurs at the frequency it does is unclear, but guests sometimes reference confusing photos, descriptions, amenities. Even if a guest uses a OTA they should not be persuaded to book by enhanced methods, inducements, bait and switch.

We have issues with confusion through the OTAs because all 21 of our units look slightly different than the other. Guests see a unit they want from the first photo, launch into the reservation page thinking they are reserving the unit from the first page or even on our website, but they actually book the first unit they land on instead of the first unit they saw.

Then the guest innocently feels that we "the property" have somehow "placed" them in the wrong unit. This is how the website from the OTA has been tailored to pull the customer into book with them despite paying a higher price, fees, and commission. The property also does not have complete control over how our information is displayed - for example jetted tub/hot tub. Descriptions such as these are different and misleading. Once again the guest only sees that "we" have given them something they were not expecting, and then the OTA assesses a penalty of "preventable cancellation" against the property if the guest decides to leave.

Obviously we do not have the advertising power of the OTAs but awareness can go far. Please continue to support small US based business, BOOK DIRECT, and safe travels.

Don't pay commissions to the Big Guys which return ZERO, don't pay unnecessary cleaning fees when you are a premium guest, and certainly not linen fees - what does that even mean?? And we STILL don't charge for firewood!!

My rustic mixed beautification project continues. Taken a bit of time given the size of our property and the hurdles we had to overcome this Spring. Little by little we’re coming together.
