November 11, 2025:
Wow, that was a night to remember! Data was looking great, my Aurora fanatic neighbor told me the CME may reach us earlier than expected âŚbut I tend to take these reports with a grain of salt. But then, walking my dogs at 5:15pm, I see a faint but large pink hue above my house. What!!??
Our tours usually pick up guests at 10:00pm and we stay at our lodge 10:30pm-2;00am.
But I called my guests for the evening and luckily, they were already in Fairbanks, and also very flexible. So I did something weâve never done before: Picked guests up at 6:00pm!!
We reach the lodge at 6:40pm and for nearly 2 hours, the rare red auroras are dominating the sky. Around 8:30pm, things settle down a little (relatively speaking). Good time to go warm up, drink cocoa/coffee.
But then around 9:20pm, the more green (with some pinks) and brighter aurora fills the sky. It just kept going. And it will keep going all night, but we were all happy and left the lodge at 10:40pm, which is around the time weâd usually be arriving!
I donât know if weâll ever have a 6pm-11pm tour again as everything has to align, from the extreme solar activity, time of year (November-January for the darkness), and guestsâ schedule.
So again, a special night to remember.
And Iâd like to thank all our past guests who were posting and texting aurora photos from their home state, such as IA, CO, VA, MA, NE, MO, CA, and LA (Louisiana)!!
