🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸
Tomorrow, we pause to remember a day that forever changed our nation.
For our family, September 11 has always been deeply personal. Aviation has been a part of our lives for many years, with Richard serving as an airline pilot and captain. And on that terrible morning, a dear childhood friend of mine was inside the South Tower of the World Trade Center. She never made it home.
We remember her.
We remember the nearly 3,000 lives taken that day—the passengers and crews aboard the aircraft, those inside the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and those aboard Flight 93 who fought back before the aircraft came down in a Pennsylvania field.
But today we also remember the extraordinary courage that emerged from unimaginable tragedy.
We honor the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and other first responders who ran toward danger while thousands were trying to escape.
We honor the rescue and recovery workers who searched through the devastation in the days and months that followed.
We honor the search-and-rescue dogs and their handlers who worked tirelessly among the rubble.
We remember the people who rushed to help at the Pentagon and the responders and volunteers who came to the field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
We remember the mariners—ferry crews, tugboat captains and ordinary boat owners—who answered the call and helped evacuate hundreds of thousands of people from Manhattan when bridges, tunnels and roads were inaccessible.
And we remember the countless ordinary Americans who donated blood, opened their homes, brought food and water, raised flags, comforted strangers and simply asked:
“How can I help?”
For a moment, we weren’t divided by where we came from, what we believed, or what we had.
We were Americans.
Twenty-five years later, may we remember not only how many we lost, but the courage, compassion and unity that followed.
May we teach the generations who weren’t yet born what happened that September morning—and why we promised we would never forget.
To every life lost.
To every family forever changed.
To every first responder.
To every volunteer.
To every working dog and handler.
To every person who stepped forward when their country and their neighbors needed them.
We remember you. We honor you. We will never forget.
