Steak ’n Shake is becoming the first major fast food chain to make its buns seed oil free.

Starting October 5, its buns will be “unapologetically drenched in pure Grade AA Wisconsin butter.”

After eliminating seed oils from its fries, the chain is pushing even further toward Real Ingredients.

The market is speaking.

Americans want healthier, seed oil free options.

Now it’s time for the rest of fast food to catch up.

“Years ago,” Raymond Cohen said, “it was all about service. Now it’s about price. So, we make sure that we not only offer the best prices, but we also have the finest service department in this community. We want to take care of our customers. It’s easier to keep a customer happy, than to find new ones.”

Those words, shared with Alabama Retailer in 2015, offer a glimpse into the philosophy Raymond carried throughout his life and into the multigenerational family business he helped build.

A longtime leader of Cohens, Raymond also served on the Alabama Retail Association’s Board of Directors and was a respected voice for the retail community.

Raymond Cohen passed away Wednesday, August 19, at age 95. He leaves behind a legacy of service and a business built on taking care of people.
