Nine and a half years ago (one week before Bridget left for college), she convinced Mary and me to buy an adorable puppy at, of all places, the Bloomington Sale Barn, while we were delivering that year's crop of feeder calves. We had no idea then how something so small could create such a big hole—until last week, when we had to say farewell to our precious Ranch Dog, Riley.
It's customary for people to have pets for companionship, and that may have been Bridget's original intention. But Riley turned out to be so much more. She made the ranch her domain and became the self-appointed ambassador to the many guests and families who have stayed at the lodge. The positive impact Riley had on so many families, especially those with children, was so apparent—particularly at Christmas time, when she was showered with toys and gifts.
We retired Riley from the ranch and from working cattle a little over a year ago, when she was diagnosed with diabetes. Since then, she has been able to relax in Wisconsin with her "big sister," Macy. Camp Bow Wow just won't be the same without her, and she will be missed by all her barnyard friends, as well as by each of us!❤️
