North Dakota households headed by adults aged 65 and older are projected to increase by nearly 30% between 2020 and 2030, driving significant demand for senior-friendly housing options.

Legacy Homes at Coulee Ridge is a 55+ residential community featuring upscale patio homes designed for low-maintenance living. Working with Edgewood Development, AGL developed a site plan that balances residential density, efficient infrastructure, and access to Bismarck's regional trail and park system. The project would not have been a success without Copper Ridge Design and Builders, INC attention to detail.

As North Dakota's population continues to age, more developments offering senior housing options that support independent living will be needed.

Hidden Star Park in Bismarck provides a welcoming space for recreation, play, and gathering for residents of all ages.

Featuring forest-themed playground equipment, a park shelter, and open green space, the park offers a convenient neighborhood amenity within walking distance of the new Cottonwood Parkview Addition neighborhood.

As one of many neighborhood parks operated by Bismarck Parks and Recreation District, Hidden Star Park demonstrates how even small public spaces can have a big impact. Thoughtfully designed parks improve neighborhood livability, encourage outdoor activity, and create opportunities for community connection.

Improvements at Blacktail Dam in Williams County ND are nearly complete!

AGL provided site design and project management services for this $9.1 million campground and recreation improvement project for Williams County Parks. The project includes a comprehensive renovation of camping facilities, new restrooms & showers, a community building, walking trails, sand volleyball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, playgrounds, and numerous other amenities.

While the grass and trees are continuing to establish, the excitement couldn't wait! The campground is already welcoming enthusiastic campers eager to enjoy the new facilities.

What happens when art, ecology, and landscape come together?

AGL has had the privilege of providing Landscape Architecture services at Ortenstone Gardens and Sculpture Park since its inception. Along the way, certain installations have felt especially meaningful. Convergence is one of those.

Created by artist Hans Gilsdorf , Convergence features three bronze Sprites representing the three distinct ecological biomes that converge in the Detroit Lakes region. botanica floristry and Blair Westrum Landscaping developed the planting beds that complement each Sprite and further connect the artwork to the landscape it represents. We are grateful for the ongoing collaboration with Project 412 and the many project partners that make this place special.

How can a parking lot be designed to also function as an event space?

That was the challenge we faced during the renovation of the Historic Bismarck Depot.

The design eliminates traditional curb and gutter in front of the building, allowing the parking area to feel and function more like a plaza. Clay paver walkways complement the building’s historic roof tiles, while thoughtful edge treatments, site details, and an iconic overhead lighting scheme help define the space. The result is a flexible community gathering place that brings good energy to downtown Bismarck.

Thanks to Knutson Realty for investing in one of Bismarck’s most iconic structures, and to the Funatix Events for always filling the space with family, friends and good times!

Dakota Community Bank & Trust Ballpark has long been a gathering place for baseball in Dickinson, and recent improvements are helping prepare it for many more seasons to come.

AGL worked alongside Apex Engineering and Dickinson Parks & Recreation on improvements to the historic ballpark, including an upgraded artificial turf infield. This renovation provides a more reliable playing surface and helps extend the baseball season in western North Dakota.

The have wrapped up another season, but we couldn’t let summer go without one more look at baseball on the new turf. See you next spring Big Sticks!

Each summer, AGL’s BIG IDEA internship program challenges one student intern to take on a real community opportunity through planning and design.

This year, Soumik Roy’s work began with The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum’s sculpture court in downtown Moorhead. As ideas developed, the project grew into a bigger question: How could the Sculpture Court, former library and The Rourke be reimagined as an arts district in Downtown Moorhead?

Over the summer, Soumik engaged with stakeholders, explored possibilities, developed a master plan and presented his vision to The Rourke team.

Thanks to The Rourke for being part of the process and to Soumik for spending the summer with us, thinking BIG.

AGL is excited to be part of the team advancing the renovation and expansion of City Hall Building. Our role will focus on the design of a new outdoor civic plaza, transforming the adjacent parking lot into a welcoming public space.

We’re grateful for the City of Bismarck's commitment to a comprehensive design approach that considers the building and site as one cohesive civic environment. We look forward to working alongside Endeavor North Design and the broader project team to create a functional and engaging civic space for the community.

Have you been to the University of Mary lately?

In 2017, we worked with the University of Mary on a campus master plan that recommended improved pedestrian and vehicle circulation, enhanced aesthetics, and a framework for future growth. Nearly a decade later, the University continues to boldly advance on that vision with parking lot and circulation system improvements in support of the new athletic facility. The transformations are remarkable. We cannot wait to attend a game at the new venue. Go Marauders!
