Another gem on the Castle Rock Trail is the Champion Lodgepole Pine. To earn the "Champion" title, a tree must be larger than any other living member of its species. At a 110ft tall, 6ft wide and growing for over 440 years this Lodgepole Pine is one of the largest in the world! It's survived wildfires, floods, storms and humans! What a feat! 🌲🌲

We embarked on an unforgettable adventure, hiking the Castle Rock trail in Big Bear, CA, with a delightful detour to the hidden gem, Bluff Lake. This 4-mile journey offered a mix of breathtaking scenery, towering trees, and captivating wildlife encounters. Along the way, we marveled at the magnificent Castle Rock, a majestic 100ft boulder with an amazing view of the lake. We even stumbled upon the fascinating ruins of a 19th-century mountain resort and a log cabin. We took our time admiring the beauty and completed the trail in just under 4 hours. These are two of the most common lizards you will see around these parts:

- Western fence lizard
- Sagebrush lizard (poor fella lost his tail 😢)
