SB 584 passed the CA Senate today and goes to the assembly for vote. This would add a statewide 15% occupancy tax on every short term (Airbnb/VRBO) rental stay but not hotel stays. Unlike perception, this tax will not be paid by the rental owners/hosts, but rather it will be paid by You the guest on every rental you make. Airbnb will collect the new state 15% tax from each renter/guest on top of the 12% Airbnb fee and the 7-15% city/county tax that Airbnb already collects. If you hate all the taxes and fees that get added to Airbnb rentals, then you must contact your state representative and urge them to vote no on this law. This will only make your reservations 15% more expensive. Note: Direct rentals with us avoid the 12% Airbnb fee, but not the taxes that must be collected.
